At the Galway Steiner Kindergarten we offer a warm and caring environment where children enjoy creative play within the security of a daily rhythm. Our children enjoy outdoor walks, songs and storytelling, open-ended play, gardening and sharing a warm meal.
We run morning sessions (9.30am–1pm) from Monday to Friday. Our day follows a pattern of alternating child-led time with a teacher-led activity. The morning includes a period of free play outside, alongside a particular activity such as gardening, washing, preparing food for the snack or a handicraft such as felting.
The day flows with regular and repetitive activity, such as circle time which incorporates songs and rhythmical verses, music and movement. The snack and warm grain meal, prepared by adults and children, are shared around the table with children, staff and volunteers eating together.
Other activities include painting, drawing, crafts, cooking, baking, cleaning and care for self and others. The strong tradition of oral storytelling and puppetry are an important part of the day.
